The Madison Board of Selectmen has called for a second Public Hearing to take place on Wednesday, April 11, 7 pm at the Polson School Auditorium. At that time, the public will be asked to provide further comment on their views for the future purpose of the Academy Street School and parcel. It is important for the public to attend this hearing and share their thoughts and ideas with the Selectman for further consideration.
Update: A Public Hearing regarding the future of the Academy Street School and parcel was held on February 22. (Watch a video of the February 22 public hearing on YouTube at this link.) More than 100 citizens attended the event. Four developers presented their proposals for rehabilitating the school building for mixed use (housing and some public activity space) and simultaneously developing housing projects on the five acre parcel. While some attendees spoke in support of the housing proposals, most of the public comments indicated that they wanted other options to be considered which maintain the open space, and identify future public uses of the school building.
