BoS and Public to Consider Proposals for the Development of Academy School

Academy School Madison CT

COME BE PART OF THE CONVERSATION AND DECISION-MAKING PROCESS!

The Madison Board of Selectmen (BoS) has scheduled a series of workshops and public meetings to educate themselves and the public on four proposals being considered for the development of Academy School.  The four proposals have not been pre-selected or endorsed by the BoS, but are the culmination of a “Request for Proposal” process that was administered by the Academy Steering Committee in collaboration with the consulting firm Colliers International.  Originally, five proposals were submitted, but one was eliminated by unanimous vote at the January 22nd BoS meeting because it was incomplete and did not address the full scope of the project.

Madison residents, along with the Board of Selectmen, will have the opportunity to attend presentations by potential developers and ask questions regarding their proposals at two public meetings being held on Monday, February 12 and Tuesday, February 13 beginning at 7:00 p.m. in the Polson Middle School auditorium.  Two developers will present each evening. The format will allow for a 30 minute presentation and 30 minute question and answer session for each developer.  The proposed schedule for the developer proposals is as follows:

MONDAY, FEBRUARY 12:

  • 7:00 PM – RAL Development Services:
  • 8:00 PM – Greylock Property Group

TUESDAY, FEBRUARY 13:

  • 7:00 PM – Dakota Partners
  • 8:00 PM – Women’s Institute for Housing and Economic Development

Copies of the written proposals can be downloaded from the Madison Town website at http://www.madisonct.org/academyschool.  Hard copies of the proposals are available in the Office of the First Selectman and at the Scranton Memorial Library.  The workshops will also be recorded and made available for future viewing on Madison Public Television.

For historical background and a synopsis of the developer proposals, link to “The Future of Academy” in the January 25 issue of The Source.

The next phase of the process will include two meetings designed to garner public opinion and to narrow the field of proposals under consideration.

PUBLIC HEARING ON THURSDAY, FEBRUARY 22: The Board of Selectmen will hold a public hearing at 7:00pm in the Polson Middle School auditorium to solicit feedback on the proposals with the goal of ranking the eligible pool of developers and eliminating one or more of the lowest ranking proposals.

BOS REGULAR MEETING ON MONDAY, FEBRUARY 26: During the Regular Board of Selectmen meeting, the Board will formally vote to eliminate one or more of the proposals and enter into a “due diligence” period with the remaining developers. This period is expected to last anywhere from several weeks to a few months.

Additional public hearings will be held prior to the BoS recommending a single development proposal to be voted on at referendum.  Check the Madison Town website on the Academy School for updates and notifications.  You may also share your views and comments through the “Academy School Proposals Public Comments Form.”
