“Experts in authoritarianism advise to keep a list of things subtly changing around you, so you’ll remember.” This is exactly what Amy Siskind did in her blog-now-book The List: A Week-by-Week Reckoning of Trump’s First Year in Office.  In the immediate aftermath of Donald Trump’s election as president, Siskind, a former Wall Street executive and the founder of The New Agenda, began compiling a list of actions taken by the Trump regime that pose a threat to our democratic norms.  Siskind’s “Weekly List” began as a project she shared with friends, but it soon went viral and now has more than half a million viewers every week.

On June 7, 2018, seventy attendees gathered for an evening of food, drink, and stimulating discussion at Café Allegre in Madison as Amy Siskind came to share her journey, read excerpts from her book, and engage with the audience in a spirited question & answer session.  “Trump is not a normal Republican President,” she told the group, and then laid out evidence that Donald Trump is leading an authoritarian administration and our democracy is at risk.  Breakwater Books of Guilford was on hand to sell copies of The List and Siskind ended the event with a book-signing.

Siskind, a college sorority sister of MDTC Chair Peggy Lyons during their undergraduate days at Cornell University, kindly appeared for the fundraising event sponsored by the Madison and Guilford Democratic Town Committees.  Proceeds will go toward campaign activities to elect Democrats to public office in the 2018 midterm elections.
